Breakthrough in Method of Prevention
By collaborating with some of the top influenza experts in the country,
a vaccine called Flu Avert® I.N. was developed that gives
horses a high level of protection against the most common and virulent strains of
equine influenza virus.
Flu Avert® I.N. Vaccine is
a proprietary “modified-live virus” vaccine which is given intranasally
(1 mL in one nostril ). The Intranasal route is well tolerated and easily accessible
in the horse.
The dose is administered into the nasal passages with a special proprietary applicator.
When the vaccine replicates in the horse’s nasal mucosa, a rapid local immune
response occurs. The horse develops an immune response that combats disease similar
to when the horse is exposed to a virulent (disease-causing) wild strain of the
equine influenza virus.
